WEB NEWS FOR TRAVELERS

April 2003

cheap seats Online travel agency OneTravel.com has opened up a new subsidiary called CheapSeats.com (www.cheapseats.com), claiming that it offers "the most available international flights of all travel sites." Search results are displayed in a grid format, displaying connections and prices for each flight. The site also includes non-published fares that CheapSeats has negotiated with airlines. The site's FareCompare feature lets users see how fares vary for flights by different departure dates or departure cities.

goport debuts at&t Wireless has entered the wireless Internet access market with its new GoPort product that lets travelers stay connected with their office networks. The company said it has also signed a deal with wireless provider Wayport to let AT&T customers roam on the latter's network of access points at hotels and airports. Pricing plans range from daily to monthly fees. AT&T users can sign up for GoPort at Denver or Philadelphia airports, or register for the new service at www.attws.com/goport.

orbitz options Airline-owned mega-site Orbitz (www.orbitz.com) has new flexible search options for airfares. If you can adjust your trip dates and want to save money, the Bonus Days option lets you automatically search for lower prices that might be available one, two or three days before or after your planned travel dates. For weekend getaways, users can also check every weekend in a given month to see which one has the best fare options for their itinerary.

viva vegas Got business in Las Vegas? A thoroughly revamped Web site at www.lasvegas.com has plenty of information for both business and leisure time. You can find short-notice hotel deals, or search major hotels and see a side-by-side comparison chart of rates in different room categories for multiple properties. You can also book air travel and rental cars on the site, and get the lowdown on shows and entertainers playing the major venues there. You can also check listings of major conventions coming to town in the weeks ahead.

new deals If you like to surf for hotel deals, keep your eye on TravelWeb (www.travelweb.com) this spring. It's been around for a while, but is due to be relaunched as the main sales vehicle for net-rate deals at the properties of its new owners-Marriott, Hyatt, Hilton, Six Continents and Starwood. It will sell marked-down rooms not just from those chains but from any other hotels that want to participate. Web surfers can already find deals from this same joint venture integrated into hotel search results on Orbitz, under the name "Orbitz Savers." Travelweb will also work with other Web sites that want to add a discount hotel booking area.
