optional dates Southwest Airlines (www.southwest.com), which does not sell tickets through any online travel sites except its own, introduced a new feature designed to help travelers with flexible schedules find the lowest available fares. Click on the home page's "Southwest Shortcut to Low Fares" link, enter origin/destination and preferred travel dates, and you'll see when the lowest fares are available for a period of a full month.

delta upgrade Delta Air Lines' Web site (www.delta.com) has a new enhancement that lets users see itineraries based on their preferred fare class and the Medallion-qualifying miles earned on that trip. Customers can also use the new feature to select fares that are refundable and/or eligible for an upgrade with 500-mile upgrade points. In the past, search results were based only on lowest available fare in a specific class of service.

pacific prices Priceline (www.priceline.com), the travel bidding site, now has hotels available in a number of transpacific destinations, including Australia, Japan, Indonesia, Malaysia, South Korea and Taiwan. With the new additions, Priceline now sells rooms at more than 9,500 hotels in the U.S., Europe, Mexico, Canada, the Caribbean and Asia, including properties of all the major U.S.-based lodging chains.

laugh time Business travelers who take the self-promotional tone of airline advertising and Web sites with a grain of salt will appreciate Sky High Airline (www.skyhighairline.com), a satire site that cuts close to the bone. The airline's motto is "the relentless pursuit of adequacy," and the various links and pages provide plenty of chuckles for jaded road warriors. Click into the reservations system to see a typical multi-leg marathon that sounds all too familiar.
