OFFICIAL RULES

 

1.     NO PURCHASE NECESSARY TO ENTER OR WIN.  A PURCHASE WILL NOT IMPROVE YOUR CHANCES OF WINNING. 

 

2.     Eligibility:  The Free Cash Sweepstakes (“Sweepstakes”) is open to legal residents of the 50 United States and the District of Columbia age 18 and older.  Employees of American Express Publishing Corporation (“Sponsor”), its subsidiaries, affiliates, advertising and promotion agencies and their immediate families and persons living in the same household as such employees are not eligible to participate.  Governed by U.S. law.  Subject to all applicable federal, state & local laws & regulations.  Void wherever prohibited by applicable federal or state law, and outside the United States.

 

3.     How To Enter: To enter, you may either: (i) click on the registration link located at http://cash.foodandwine.com or http://cash.travelandleisure.com and complete the registration form located there; or (ii) hand print your name, address, date of birth, phone number & e-mail address (optional) on a postcard and mail to: Free Cash Sweepstakes, P.O. Box 9194, Medford, NY 11763-9194.  To be eligible for the Sweepstakes, online entries must be received between 12:01 AM Pacific Time (PT) on 11/1/01 and 11:59 PM (PT) on 10/31/02, and mail-in entries must be postmarked between 11/1/02 and 10/31/02 and received by 11/7/02.  You may enter as many times as you want, but only one entry per person or e-mail address per day, regardless of entry method.  All entries and requests become Sponsor's property & will not be returned/acknowledged.  In the event of a dispute over the identity of an online entrant, entry will be deemed submitted by the holder of the e-mail account.  Mass entries or entries generated by a script, macro or use of automated devices will be disqualified.

 

4.     THE GRAND PRIZE Drawing: One winner will be selected in a random drawing among all eligible entries received to award one (1) prize of $10,000 cash or merchandise valued at $10,000. To be eligible for the drawing, your online entry must be received by 11:59 (PT) on 10/31/02.  Your mail-in entry must be postmarked by 10/31/02 and received by 11/7/02.  The grand prize drawing will be held on or about 11/18/02.  Odds of winning depend on the number of eligible entries received, estimated at 1:1,200,000.

 

5.     MONTHLY PRIZE DRAWING: One winner will be selected for each month beginning on 11/1/01, and ending on 10/31/02 in a random drawing among all eligible entries received during that month. Each monthly random drawing will be held within 15 days of the end of that month. The monthly prize will be $1,000 cash or merchandise valued at $1,000. To be eligible for a given monthly drawing your online entry must be received between 12:01 AM Pacific Time (PT) on the first day of the month and 11:59 PM (PT) on the last day of that given month.  Your mail-in entry must be postmarked between the first day of that month and the last day of that given month and received within 7 days thereafter.  For any given mail-in entry deadline that falls on a Sunday or federal holiday, those entries will also be accepted on the next business day. If during any month no entries are received for the monthly drawing, that monthly prize will be awarded as an additional prize in the following month, provided a sufficient number of entries are received for that month.  This process will be repeated until all twelve (12) prizes are awarded.  If no entries are received for the last monthly drawing, then the final monthly prize will be awarded from among all eligible entries received in the previous month.  Twelve (12) total prizes will be awarded (one per month), total maximum value of prizes: $12,000. Odds of winning depend on the number of eligible entries received per monthly drawing, estimated at 1:300,000.

 

6.     Notification of Winners: Each winner will be notified by mail, phone or email within 14 days after the drawing.  To be declared a winner, all potential winners must complete & return an affidavit of eligibility and liability/publicity release within 14 days of date specified on notification, or an alternate winner will be selected.  Each prize will be awarded within 30 days after receipt of properly executed affidavit.  If winner cannot be notified within five (5) days after notification attempt, the corresponding prize will be awarded to an alternate winner in a separate random drawing.  Prizes are not transferable and no substitution of prize by a winner is permitted.    All taxes and any other expenses on any prize are the sole responsibility of each corresponding winner. 

 

7.     Disclaimer/Publication: You assume all liability for any injury, loss or damage caused or claimed to be caused by your participation in the Sweepstakes and/or the acceptance, awarding, receipt, use and/or misuse of any prize, and release Sponsor, its respective affiliates, subsidiaries, directors, employees and agents, and all others associated with the development and execution of this sweepstakes from any such liability.  Entry & acceptance of prize constitute permission to use a winner's name, prize won, hometown & likeness for promotional purposes without further compensation, except where prohibited by law.

 

8.     Additional Rules: Entry materials/data that have been tampered with or altered, or mass entries or entries generated by a script, macro or use of automated devices are void. No photocopied or mechanically reproduced entries are eligible.  Sponsor is not responsible for: (i) lost, late, misdirected, damaged, illegible or postage due mail/entries; or (ii) error, omission, interruption, deletion, defect, delay in operations or transmission, theft or destruction or unauthorized access to or alterations of entry materials, or for technical, network, telephone equipment, electronic, computer, hardware or software malfunctions of any kind, or inaccurate transmission of or failure to receive entry information by Sponsor on account of technical problems or traffic congestion on the Internet or at any web site or any combination thereof; or (ii) any injury or damage to entrant’s or any other person’s computer related to or resulting from participating in the sweepstakes.  All random drawings will be conducted under supervision of an independent judging organization. By participating in the Sweepstakes, you (i) agree to be bound by these official rules, including all eligibility requirements, and (ii) agree to be bound by the decisions of Sponsor and the independent judging organization, which are final and binding in all matters relating to the Sweepstakes.  Failure to comply with these official rules may result in disqualification from the Sweepstakes.  Sponsor reserves the right to: (i) permanently disqualify from any sweepstakes it sponsors any person it believes has intentionally violated these official rules; and (ii) withdraw the online method of entry if it becomes technically corrupted, (including if a computer virus or system malfunction inalterably impairs its ability to conduct the sweepstakes), & to select winners from among all entries received including mail-in.

 

9.     Legal Warning: ANY ATTEMPT BY AN individual, whether or not an ENTRANT, TO DELIBERATELY DAMAGE, destroy, tamper or vandalize this WEB SITE OR interfere with the OPERATION OF THE SWEEPSTAKES, IS A VIOLATION OF CRIMINAL & CIVIL LAWS and SPONSOR RESERVES THE RIGHT TO SEEK DAMAGES and diligently pursue all remedies against ANY SUCH individual TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW.
